Episode 1007: Biggest Weekend In Irish Sport This Year, Ken In Copenhagen, Ireland’s New-Look Backline, Jean De Villiers On RWC 2023 Beef
It’s the biggest weekend in Irish sport this year, as Ireland play Denmark in Copenhagen in the first leg of the World Cup playoff, while just over 2 hours before that game kicks off, another season of Irish rugby internationals starts with a bang against the Springboks.
Ken is in Copenhagen for his Repørt on Spørt, and is in two minds about how best to set up the Irish team – in essence, there are many options, and the options that include starting Glenn Whelan look like the weaker of those options.
Gerry Thornley is in studio looking ahead to South Africa, their superstar new hooker, our callow looking back-line, and Joe Schmidt’s exasperation with the Bundee Aki debate – and we sent Eoin out in to the field to talk to former national team captain and Munster player Jean de Villiers about our duelling unions over the Rugby World Cup bid and South Africa’s issues with racial equality.
