Episode 1395: The Players Chair With Republic Of Ireland And Arsenal Legend Emma Byrne
Richie Sadlier is back with another edition of the Players Chair, and today’s guest is the most decorated and most capped Irish footballer of all time – Emma Byrne. She spent 16 years at Arsenal where she won a Champions League in 2007, 2 FA Super Leagues, 9 FA Premier Leagues and 9 FA Cups!
In a professional career that spanned over 20 years, the Leixlip born goalkeeper won a vast array of trophies with Arsenal, and a record number of caps for the Irish WNT.
But before her international career was over, she became the face of the women’s national team’s fight to be treated with respect, a fight she waged against the FAI, the price of which she reckons she might well pay into the future.
Richie and Emma also talk about the unique challenges of a women’s dressing room, the goalie’s union, and there’s also a revelation from Murph, and mad goalies giving the straight-laced ones a bad name. It’s episode 20 of the Players Chair, with Emma Byrne.
