Episode 1433: Mayo Win But What Does It Mean For The Championship, Arsenal And Spurs Trade Places, Ozil Compromise, McTepid On VVD
Arsenal were 13 points behind Spurs 5 games ago, and now they’re 2 points ahead of them, after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Newcastle – Ken salutes (3.10 mins) Unai Emery’s rebuilding job and the Ozil “creativity compromise”.
Mesut Ozil: “My work is to give everything on the pitch, like today; I want to help my team-mates. We all played well, not just me. Our aim’s to get in the top four and of course we’re happy to be ahead of Sp*rs.” #AFC #Arsenal pic.twitter.com/H10om8gYJG

Mayo won the league final on Sunday, and their willingness to show how happy they were was refreshing – no self-conscious “it’s only the league” interviews, no hedging their bets – after 10 finals and zero wins since their last league title in 2001, they were perfectly entitled to have their moment.

But what does it mean for the championship? John Casey and Oisin McConville tell us (14.50 mins) how Mayo ended this league as champions, what makes them as doughty as they are, and whether (for all their wins this spring) the questions we had about Kerry in January are every bit as prevalent today as they were back then.
“Mayo players making love out on the pitch!” What in the name of Jesus Christ is happening out there?” Immortal commentary on ?@radiomidwest? ?@MD_McAndrew? & Martin Carney from Sunday’s league final. Best 2 minutes you’ll listen to all year https://t.co/DEmWEVGbZf

Plus there’s Codeine Kane, Cork want GAA Armageddon, there’s a McTepid take from yesterday’s show awarded on review, and no crying over spilt league.
