Episode 1453: Ireland Under-17s Manager Colin O’Brien On Irish Footballing DNA, Staying Calm Amidst Controversy And Not Tolerating Inferiority Complexes
We’re joined in studio today by Republic of Ireland Under-17s manager, Colin O’Brien ahead of this year’s European Championships, which will be staged here in Ireland.
In a time when their senior counterparts have been floundering, the Under-17s have excelled in recent years, with European Championship quarter-final finishes to their name in both 2017 and 2018.

Colin discusses the controversial and much-publicised circumstances in which his side were knocked out of the tournament last year, how he managed to keep a cool head amidst the madness, whether there’s really a distinct Irish footballing identity, and if recent success at youth level bodes well for the future of the senior international game.
There’s also Frances Murphy’s TV Guide, the madness of the marathon runner, big bags of cash and a dirty rotten scumbag.
