The dream is all over for Scotland, sadly depriving us of the best chants of the tournament but we did get one of the goals of the tournament from Luka Modric in exchange. Their Group D colleagues England looked impressive at least for the first half last night, and now wait to see who the last 16 will bring.

We talk to Jonathan Wilson about the impact made by Grealish and Saka, the style/substance debate, why group stages can be so misleading and how France will play it against Portugal this evening with a trip to Wembley on the cards if they don’t win.

UEFA have once again fluffed their lines in refusing to allow Germany to light up the Allianz Arena in the colours of the rainbow when they welcome Hungary tonight, a decision which is completely inconsistent with both their own policies and how they eventually treated Manuel Neuer’s decision to wear a rainbow armband.

Plus there’s false friends and sweet relief at saying goodbye to Group D.
