Novak Djokovic proudly announced earlier this week on Instagram that he would indeed be going to this year’s Australian Open. Cue a firestorm of criticism from Australian citizens, angry at what appeared to be an exception being made for one of the world’s greatest sportspeople.

But when he arrived at Melbourne Airport yesterday, he hit a bit of a snag. Eight hours later, after some time spent in a room in immigration services without his phone, he was told he was being sent home. But he’s still in Melbourne, and he will have his day in court next Monday – we hear the latest from Australian journalist Brett Philips.

We also have the peerless Caitlin Thompson of Racquet Magazine to give us her perspective on a story, just 6 days into 2022, that will take topping for sheer daftness this year.
