Episode 2407: The Poet Broadcaster, Faldo Weeps, Rovers Take Flight
Vin Scully was the greatest American sports broadcaster of all time, and his career spanning 66 years with the Brookyln Dodgers, and with TV networks covering national sports events, is unrivalled anywhere in the world.
Brian Murphy joins us to talk about Scully’s Irish roots, how he gave his imprimatur to the great baseball migration west in the 1950s when the Dodgers and the Giants moved out of New York, and how Scully is proof that “you don’t have to be a dick”.
We also discuss Shamrock Rovers’ latest triumph in Europe, lollygagging, Serena’s next move and Nick Faldo’s tearful goodbye to broadcasting.
