Ep 3009: Winner Wiffen, Kicking With Ken, Biles Twists Into History
Ray Houghton in New York, Sonia in Gothenburg, Katie in London and now Daniel Wiffen in Paris. As Wiffen said, he’s making history this week.
We chat to Sinéad O’Carroll and Cathal Dennehy – who were both poolside – about expecting and then winning, an Olympic swimming gold medal. This is new territory for Irish sports fans.
Before she saw Wiffen’a win, Sinéad also had a ‘’life changing’’ moment as she watched Simone Biles complete her own redemption arc from the pain of Tokyo to triumph in Paris.
Finally, we are running a competition on today’s show as the brilliant Irish artist Colm Mac Athlaoich has an exhibition at the moment in the Glovebox Gallery at Allta in the Dublin Docklands. The show is based on photo finish images of track athletes and we have a beautiful print by Colm to give away on Second Captains this week. We’ll announce a winner on Friday’s show, the first day of athletics at the Olympics.
Click the player at the top of the page to play the show. Monday’s shows are free to all. To listen to our programming throughout the rest of the week, join the Second Captains World Service.
