Episode 1781: Howard Bryant On The Death Of George Floyd, Police Brutality And The Backlash Around the World; Donald Trump And ‘Dominating’ Protestors
It’s been a chaotic few days in the United States with protests taking place across the country following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, as well as scenes of violence and looting. Just last night, Donald Trump pledged to call in the military to restore ‘order’ to US cities, while peaceful protesters were tear-gassed outside the White House.
The last election the white vote went democrat: 1964, and all it took was an election following the first presidential assassination in 62 years and the disastrous Barry Goldwater as the Republican nominee. 63/53 pct of WM/WW went Trump in 2016. In your heart, you know I’m right.

ESPN’s Howard Bryant is the author of a book we previously discussed on the show, ‘The Heritage’, which analyses the history of social activism among black American athletes, from Jackie Robinson to Lebron James. Howard joins us on today’s show to try and make sense of the situation as it’s unfolding in the US.
Plus there’s NFL bluster, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho speaking out, and Dara Ó Cinnéide’s exquisite music taste.
