Things change, people change. It’s not that long since the previous FIFA president suggested that players who had been racially abused could settle things with a simple handshake at the end of the game. Now his successor says the Bundesliga players who protested against police brutality over the weekend deserve applause, not punishments. Is the era of punishing players for on-field political expressions therefore over?
