Episode 1797: Tyrone’s Conor McKenna Contracts Covid-19 And Aussie Rules Cries Foul, Novak’s Bad Week, Burnley Banner No Surprise
Tyrone’s Conor McKenna is one of the big Irish successes in Australian Rules – but he found himself in the middle of a media firestorm after he tested positive for Covid-19 last Saturday.
We talk to AFL journalist and broadcaster Rohan Connolly about McKenna’s case, the media’s sensationalist coverage of it, the culture wars in Australia, and the Melbourne/Sydney rivalry we never even knew about.
There’s also the latest on the ill-fated Adria Tour, as its founder Novak Djokovic and his wife both test positive for Covid-19, the depressing “White Lives Matter” banner that flew over the Etihad on Monday night, Typhoid Mary, shock jocks and homesickness.
Ben Mee, Burnley’s captain, superb on Sky re plane banner. “I’m ashamed, I’m embarrassed . . . these people need to come into the 21st century and educate themselves. They don’t represent what we’re about.”
