The England World Cup winner from 2003, Steve Thompson, gave a devastating interview to the Guardian newspaper earlier this week, which outlined the early-onset dementia that he’s been dealing with since the end of his career.

He is one of a number of former rugby players taking legal action about the neurological damage done during the course of their careers. As a peer of many of those players, and a Lions tour room-mate of Thompson’s, Shane Horgan tells us about the impact the story had on him, what rugby needs to do now, and we look ahead to a re-purposed Heineken Cup starting this week.
