So… who had a Mayo/Tyrone final at the start of this year? Not many would have predicted an All-Ireland without either Kerry or Dublin in it, so to have both of the pre-season favourites beaten at the semi-final stage is some much needed unpredictability in a championship that looked all too routine in previous years.

Oisin McConville and Paul Flynn have been brilliant all summer at marking the changing hierarchies, and Saturday was tailor-made for Tyrone, who had all the guile, all the patience and all the doggedness to pip a Kerry team that didn’t always play to it’s strengths.
