Episode 2173: Sticking With Sexton, Eddie Jones’ Crystal Ball, Ireland Win In Helsinki, Gang Will All Be There
Johnny Sexton has declared himself fit for the upcoming November internationals and says the team are already working and building towards RWC2023 in France. As he’s the captain and most influential player it looks like Andy Farrell is now planning for his 36-year-old outhalf to make it to the World Cup. Meanwhile Eddie Jones has seen the future and the next few years will be all about speed of body and mind. So how does that chime with Ireland’s current squad selections and style of play?
We chat to decorated internationals Shane Horgan and Gordon Darcy about sticking with Sexton, Joey Carbery’s body language, Eddie’s vision, if last year’s win over England will spark a change in attitude and if kicking is now passé.
Last Friday we spoke about how vital it was that Vera Pauw’s Ireland side got something from their World Cup qualifier against Finland in Helsinki and they did just that yesterday, winning 2-1 against the team we’re most likely to be duking it out with for a crucial play-off spot. And as Eoin recalls, it’s not the first time we’ve had success in Helsinki’s Olympic stadium…
