Yesterday it seemed like the Premier League might opt to postpone a round of post-Stephen’s Day games in order to try and deal with the huge number of Covid cases among players. In the end the league decided the show must go on, although the introduction of a two-tier system of rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated players is seemingly on the cards.

The Champions Cup is another tournament that’s been plagued by postponements and cancellations and like last season, seems increasingly likely to have its format changed amid the ongoing chaos.

We chat to Andrew Trimble and Gerry Thornley about the tournament flatling, Munster’s undercooked performance against Castres in what was a painfully dull match, and the verdict that everyone is reaching: it’s high time that Jack Carty’s brilliant performances for Connacht are rewarded with another Ireland call-up.
