In case you’d forgotten just how astoundingly good a year 2021 was for Rachael Blackmore, it was brought right back into focus in the last fortnight as she swept up award after award, prizes which are the cherry on top of her six Cheltenham wins and victory in the Grand National.

Those singular achievements are the focus of a new documentary – directed by friend of the show, Ross Whitaker – called ‘Rachael Blackmore: A Grand Year’, which airs on RTÉ One tomorrow night. Ross, who’s also recently directed brilliant docs on Katie Taylor and Shane Lowry, joins us today.

We chat about how you convince someone who’d prefer if she had no media obligations whatsoever to agree to a project like this, Rachael’s reluctance to position herself as a spokesperson for advancing women’s sport, why it was such a good thing that it was Rachael and not someone else who became the first female jockey to win the National, and the extraordinary esteem in which she’s held by the best jockeys out there.

Plus there’s a presenter role-reversal and Murph’s movie week.
