The chess world has been ripped apart by allegations of cheating made by the undisputed world number 1, Magnus Carlsen, against one of his rivals, Hans Niemann. This was a big story, even before Elon Musk retweeted some conspiracy theory about anal beads playing some role in this, and Eoin McDevitt is eager for you to know that.

We speak to Greg Keener who’s been writing about this for the NY Times, and Jonathan Tisdall, author, chess grandmaster and three-time Norwegian champion, about Carlsen’s amazing statement earlier this week outlining his suspicions, Niemann’s past history of cheating (which he’s admitted to), the role the internet is playing in all this and what’s behind the recent chess boom.

We also discuss Norway’s ridiculous crop of sporting talent, their rich history in arts, culture and politics, Stephen A Smith getting out bombasted  – and with a couple more stories of referees getting assaulted in the GAA coming to light in recent days, we ponder why bans are such a poor deterrent, and the broken windows theory of policing.
