Episode 860: The Player’s Chair With Anthony Daly
“What the hell am I doing here?”
Anthony Daly asks himself that question all the time. And Richie asks him some more in episode 4 of The Player’s Chair.
Anthony Daly is one of Clare’s greatest ever players – a captain without parallel, a leader of men, and then a coach first with his native Clare and then with Dublin. He won All-Ireland medals in 1995 and 1997, and then took Dublin to a Leinster final victory in 2013 that would have seemed outlandish when he first took the job.
It’s a story of huge success against the odds. But self-doubt was never faraway, and this is a peek behind the veneer of one of the most outwardly confident, brash and talented hurlers of the last 20 years.
This is an intriguing, intimate chat between two sportsmen who often feel like imposters, about the pitfalls of a life lived in the public eye, and the magic of dedicating yourself to something you love.
