Episode 863: US Murph On “Mr May”, Carlow Call Out The Dubs, Ken In Stockholm
The GAA championship started on Sunday, and one of the heartwarming tales of the weekend just past was Carlow’s first win in the Leinster championship against Wexford.
We’re joined in studio by their centre-back Daniel St Ledger to talk about what keeps him motivated, pink elephants, and facing the Dubs with nothing to lose on live television.
And at the urging of one of our beloved World Service members, US Murph is on hand to explain to us how Dave Winfield, one of the great baseball players of the last 40 years, got the not-particularly complimentary nickname “Mr May”, and how hatred of Winfield nearly got Yankees owner George Steinbrenner kicked out of baseball.
Plus there’s an entirely-predictable Seinfeld intermission, Eoin fondly remembers his school days bullying Carlow intercounty players, and Ken is live in Stockholm ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League final.
