Young dorky Ciaran Murphy and young athletic Shane Horgan had one thing in common – the Meath Down 1991 All Ireland Final was the first one either had attended. Murph was smuggled in, while Shane earned his spot by coming through a gruelling, ruthless Meath mini 7’s combine.

We chat to Meath’s Liam Hayes and Down’s Conor Deegan about the ’91 final which featured old cranky medal laden Meath, and Down, a team full of swashbuckling stars who had the weight of history on their shoulders.

We also discuss this weekend’s Tailteann Cup final, chancer dads, football’s fading appeal and why some/most people want a Kerry Dublin final.
