The USWNT have just about made it through to the knockout stages of the Women’s World Cup but much of their media are focusing on the players who have refused to sing the national anthem for the last three games. Ken speaks some common sense (society).

Eimear Ryan is a former All-Ireland camogie champion with Tipp, a sports columnist with the Irish Examiner, a former guest on the Second Captains “I’ll Tell You Who Wrote It” Book Club and her debut novel Holding Her Breath was nominated for the John McGahern Prize. She joins us in studio today to talk about her memoir The Grass Ceiling – On Being A Woman in Sport.

She talks to us about growing up a woman in a “man’s” game, her own conflicted feelings about her all-Ireland medal, and this weekend’s All-Ireland camogie final, being played at the end of a season marked by GPA player protests.

We bring you news of the return of Synth Week – send in your entries and your synth week requests to [email protected] – make sure you give your names (former winners and contestants may reapply).
