Episode 2777: Rassie’s 7-1, It’s A Knockout, Pulling Up The Drawbridge, Ken’s Bike, Coach Murph
You know what rugby needs… an even bigger World Cup! That’s what the governing body World Rugby reckon anyway, in a move that is designed to help the weaker countries…. like Ireland, make it through a knockout game. At the same time they’ve also announced a new biannual international Nations Championship involving the leading 12 northern and southern hemisphere sides, along with a second division of 12 teams, but with no promotion or relegation until at least 2030.
We chat to Scotty Stevenson of TVNZ and Ruaidhri O’Connor of the Irish Independent about Rassie’s 7-1 gamble for the final, the allegations made against Bongi Mbonambi that will not be investigated by World Rugby, the changes made to the World Cup, the first tier nations pulling up the drawbridge, and the proposed new European club comp, the British and Irish Cup, which could replace the URC.
Plus Ken tells us about his bike troubles and Murph has news of a budding coaching career.
