Ireland’s dream of hosting the 2023 Rugby World Cup appears to lie in tatters after World Rugby’s Technical Review Group this morning placed our bid bottom of the pile as South Africa, France and ourselves look to host the tournament.

We finished last in all but one of the five criteria upon which the bids were assessed. Gerry Thornley is in studio to reflect on the key pieces missing from the bid, and whether even the Rugby World Cup is now too big a tournament for a country of our size to hold.
