Episode 1122: Ken Loach On A United Ireland, Eric Cantona And Filmmaking After 80

It’s the fourth instalment of our birthday celebration shows, and after hearing from Vincent Browne, Michael Cheika and Paul Kimmage, we bring you our chat with fire-brand film-maker Ken Loach.

Creator of “Kes”, voted one of the top ten greatest films of all time by the British Film Institute, Ken Loach is one of Britain’s most brilliant, urgent and important post-war filmmakers.

He also has repeatedly returned to Ireland as an inspiration, from his 1990 movie “Hidden Agenda” (called “the IRA entry at Cannes” by a Tory MP at the time), to “The Wind That Shakes The Barley”, which broke box office records here in 2006.

Now approaching 82, he is still as politically engaged as ever, as evidenced by his latest masterpiece “I, Daniel Blake”, and Eoin and Murph went to his offices in London to talk to him about his love of football, Eric Cantona, working with actors, and the lies Britain tells itself.
