Episode 1192: Run Russia Run, Balloons In St Petersburg, American Reporter Held Hostage in Tehran For 18 Months On Why He’s Shouting For Iran
Jason Rezaian is a Washington Post reporter who, in 2014, while based in Tehran, was arrested by Iranian government security forces and after a secretive trial was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
There was no evidence to support a case against him, besides a letter sent to President Obama’s transition team in 2008 offering assistance with improving Iran-US relations. While in jail Jason suffered mental and physical abuse at the hands of his captors, before President Obama and then-Secretary of State John Kerry negotiated his release in January 2016.
