If you want to go back to watch an All-Ireland final that wasn’t presented by Michael Lyster, you have to go back a while – before the arrival of the Premier League, before Italia 90, before Stephen Roche’s Tour de France, before even Barry McGuigan’s world title win.

In the next three weeks, Michael Lyster will do his 76th and 77th All-Ireland final, before he retires from RTE Sport. He joins us in studio to talk about how he got the job in the first place, how his wife saved his life, how the Sunday Game grew to be a national obsession, being related to George Clooney, and being a rock God in Tuam in the 1970s.

Plus there’s historical evidence of an ongoing campaign of disrespect against Galway hurling, Joe Brolly purrs, Murph reveals the name of the greatest man ever born west of the Shannon, and the call goes out – as it must at this time every year – for livestock wearing GAA jerseys.
