Mayo football fans are embarking on a journey south this weekend, to the most scenic sports ground in the country. Their match against Kerry in Killarney is as good an excuse as we need to talk to Jim Carney about his memories of visiting Fitzgerald Stadium.

It’s 40 years ago this week since the first ever episode of The Sunday Game, and Jim tells us about the time he commentated on a game in Kerry in the afternoon, and was back in Dublin in time to present the show that evening, as well as pubs and pilgrimages, what radio means, helicopters and his Mayo leanings.
And as Murph’s family take-over of this podcast continues, Frances Murphy marks our cards for the most summery of sports TV weekends. Plus there’s George Hamilton’s round, Kieran Donaghy’s war-cry, schemozzles in the parallelogram, and we contemplate a combover for Eoin.
